EXPLORING THE SCRIPTURES
We will be holding our January Bible Study on Zoom on Wednesday January 19 7:30 – 9:00pm.
Topic: “Light” and “Dark” Bible Verses
In a pandemic winter with short, grey days and few cultural distractions, we are hungry for light and for ways to endure the darkness of these long nights. Light is a favorite metaphor in the bible for our experience of God’s presence, guidance and love, as darkness is for our loss of faith in God with its attendant despair and confusion. Yet darkness can be restful and comforting, and light can dazzle and distract. Bring your favorite “light” and “dark” bible verses and join us as we explore the light and darkness in our own lives and consider how the bible might help us to expand our understanding of both.
Readings: Isaiah 9:2,6; 60:1-3,19-20; John 1:1-9; 3:17-21; 9:1-5; 12:35-36; Matthew 5:14-16; Luke 11:33-36; Romans 13:11-14; Ephesians 5:8-14.
Hymn by Walter C. Smith
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
4 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render, O help us to see
'tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.
Each session is a stand-alone meeting so join us for whatever sessions you can fit into your schedule. All are welcome!
