CARING COMMUNITY ~ ENGAGING OUTREACH ~ COMPELLING WORSHIP
Meet Our Staff
Gareth is originally from the UK and came to the States for Graduate School. He has served congregations in England, as well as in the Diocese of Massachusetts. Serving at Good Shepherd since 2010 he has recently accepted a call to become the Rector of St. Barnabas, Irvington NY.
His last Sunday will be November 18th 2018.
He is married to Fran Bean, a Math Specialist in private practice. They have three small children, Cassie, Charlie and Jamie. He enjoys the odd moment of solitude, getting to the gym early and often, listening to 80’s music in his MINI as well as devoting way too many hours to contemplating the cultural significance of The Beatles.
Having been ordained in the Lutheran (ELCA) Church, Melissa has served Lutheran churches in Massachusetts and Rhode Island since 2002. Upon taking time off from her call to Word and Sacrament Ministry to raise her daughter, Melissa found a home at Church of the Good Shepherd and has served in a variety of roles in the parish. In 2007, and as a result of the Called to Common Mission concordat that exists between the ELCA and the Episcopal Church, Melissa was licensed to serve in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. She currently serves as Priest Associate at Church of the Good Shepherd and provides a pastoral presence by preaching and presiding at worship as needed and supporting members of the congregation in their various ministries. She has found her passion in helping to organize the Spiritual Parenting group within the parish. She lives in Acton with her husband John, their daughter, and two golden retrievers.
Growing up, the Church of the Good Shepherd was a defining part of my childhood. I met longtime friends in Sunday school, made memories in vacation bible camp, and discovered my love for singing in the children's choir. Most importantly, the Church of the Good Shepherd was the foundation for my journey of faith. It is heartwarming for me now to return to this place that was fundamental to my own childhood, and help provide the same welcoming faith-based environment to the children of the community. It is so wonderful for me to see so many familiar faces, as well as meet and get to know new people that have joined the church over the years. Thank you all for welcoming me back into the fold with open arms.
Laura joined the staff in September 2008. She is the contact person for most inquiries, which she will refer to the appropriate person if it is not her. Laura is in charge of the weekly publications such as the bulletin, Shepherd’s Fold and eblasts and facilitates the publication of the seasonal Shepherd’s Staff. She maintains the church calendar (to avoid conflicts) and the member data base. Laura is in charge of collecting Committee reports and assembling the annual report, as well as preparing required filings with the Diocese. Laura handles payroll and purchasing supplies for the office, building maintenance and kitchen.
